Postpartum Recovery Program in Winston-Salem

At Taylor PT & Wellness in Winston-Salem, we believe recovery doesn’t end six weeks after birth – it lasts through the entire first year and beyond. The postpartum season is a time of healing, rediscovery, and adjustment, and you deserve more than a quick “all clear” at your checkup.

Our Postpartum Recovery Program is a 4-visit program  designed to support your whole body as it heals. From pelvic floor recovery and diastasis recti to safe return to exercise, intimacy, and daily life, this program gives moms the care and confidence they need in the first year after birth.

Healing after birth doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We’re here to guide you every step of the way.

What Is the Postpartum Recovery Program?

This 4-visit program provides comprehensive care throughout your first postpartum year:

  • Visit 1: Comprehensive Assessment (around 6 weeks postpartum)

We begin with a thorough history, including your prenatal journey, birth story, and outcomes (vaginal or cesarean, scar tissue, etc.). We then evaluate the pelvic floor, abdominal wall, posture, and spine to identify concerns such as leakage, constipation, prolapse, pain, or diastasis recti.

  • Visit 2: Pelvic Floor Healing & Core Rehab (around 3 months postpartum)

Focused treatment to support healing, restore strength, and reconnect breath, core, and pelvic floor. We also address specific symptoms identified in Visit 1 – such as neck pain from newborn care or incontinence.

  • Visit 3: Returning to Exercise & Intimacy (around 6 months postpartum)

Guidance on safely easing back into movement – whether walking, running, yoga, lifting, or high-impact exercise. We also provide strategies for comfort with intimacy and ongoing pelvic floor support.

  • Visit 4: Long-Term Wellness Planning (12 months pp)

Tools and resources for continued recovery, building strength, and managing the demands of motherhood – from lifting a stroller to running, playing, or training for fitness goals.

By the End of the Program

By the end of the 4 visits, you will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of your pelvic floor and core recovery
  • Receive guidance for caring for your perineal or cesarean scar
  • Learn strategies to help manage symptoms such as leakage, pain, or hemorrhoids
  • Explore safe ways to return to exercise, movement, and fitness
  • Build tools and confidence for intimacy and sexual health
  • Strengthen trust in your body and its healing process
  • Feel more prepared for future pregnancies

Why Choose Taylor PT & Wellness?

Postpartum care here looks different from anywhere else:

  • More than a 6-week checkup – The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists now recommends ongoing postpartum care. Women deserve more than a single visit focused on birth control. That’s why we created this program – to provide holistic healing for new moms.
  • Specialized pelvic health therapists – Doctorate-trained providers with advanced certifications in women’s health.
  • Whole-body approach – Addressing not just the pelvic floor, but also the core, movement, nervous system, sleep, and stress.
  • Judgment-free zone – A safe place to ask questions, share your story, and be truly heard.
  • Collaborative care – We partner with OBs, midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, nutritionists, and counselors to provide seamless, whole-person care and the best outcomes possible.
  • Connected to the local birth community – We’re active participants in Winston-Salem’s birth and motherhood community, partnering with groups like Fit4Mom and Mom League and serving as guest speakers for new mom cohorts. This means our patients often see familiar faces in these circles, building a sense of community and support that extends well beyond our clinic.
  • On-site resources – Nutrition, lactation consulting, massage therapy, and yoga available right in our clinic.
  • Family-friendly space – Nursing room, diaper-changing station, and toys for little ones.

Every mom deserves support beyond the 6-week checkup. We’re here when you’re ready to start your healing journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start the Postpartum Program?

You can begin as soon as six weeks postpartum , or anytime in your first year after birth.

Do I need to have symptoms to join?

No. This program is for both symptom-free moms and those experiencing concerns like leakage, pain, or diastasis recti.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes! We are family-friendly and have a mother-baby space with nursing and diaper-changing amenities.

What if new symptoms arise during the program?

Your therapist can seamlessly integrate pelvic floor therapy into your visits, ensuring your care evolves with your needs.

How is this different from my follow-up medical visit?

Medical providers check important health markers like incision or stitch healing, infection, and other conditions within their scope of care.
